What is a Marketplace Facilitator?
A Marketplace Facilitator is defined as a marketplace that contracts with third-party sellers to promote their sale of physical property, digital goods, and services through the marketplace. As a result, Redbubble is deemed to be a marketplace facilitator for third-party sales facilitated through www.redbubble.com
Marketplace Facilitator legislation is a set of laws that shift the sales tax collection and remittance obligations from a third party seller to the marketplace facilitator. As the marketplace facilitator, Redbubble will now be responsible to calculate, collect, and remit tax on sales sold by third-party sellers for transactions destined to states where Marketplace Facilitator and/or Marketplace collection legislation is enacted.
Marketplace Facilitator legislation is currently in effect in the following states: Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington, and Pennsylvania
Marketplace Facilitator legislation requires Redbubble to calculate, collect & remit sales taxes for orders shipped to customers in Washington, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Minnesota, New Jersey, and South Carolina. These new provisions require online marketplaces to take responsibility for collecting sales tax on behalf of the 3rd party sellers for transactions destined to the above states.
The tax is a sales-based transaction tax on online sales, similar to sales made from physical stores.
Check out with your items as usual. The full tax amount will be included in the purchase.
The tax rate applied to your order will be the combined state and local rates of the address where your order is delivered to or fulfilled from. It is calculated after the shipping address for your order is completed. For example, if you live in a state that does not impose a sales tax, you may still see tax calculated on your order if shipped to another state.
Taxes vary by States and Zip Codes. Please refer to your local State tax laws for further information.
